Blue Christmas Service, Wednesday, December 20, 2023

You might be wondering what a Blue Christmas Service is.  In fact, I hope you are wondering.

A Blue Christmas Service is a special service to recognize the complexity of this time of year.  There is a lot of cultural energy around Christmas being Merry and Bright.  And the church often talks about the Joy, Hope, Peace and Love of this season.  That might not be or might not feel like it leaves much room for missing loved ones or knowing that not everyone's Christmas time is Merry and Bright.  Sometimes, the holidays are just "blahh".  Sometimes family wants to make you pull your hair out.  And for some folks they are filled with hurt from the past or even the uncertainty of the future.

Humans are complex.  We do hold all of these emotions within ourselves.  The Blue Christmas is a service to acknowledge that Christmas and the Holiday Season can be difficult and complicated.  Yes, there can be Merry and Bright, and there can be pain and loss.

Together we'll name that complexity, as well as be assured that God is with us in it all.  And be reminded that God loves us no matter where we are this Christmas time.  God is in the Merry and God is in the not so Merry.  God loves you as you move between those, live in both of them, and in between.  Everyone is welcome for this quieter Christmas service, Wednesday, December 20th at 7 PM.
