Youth Ministry here at First Congregational Church allows students to get involved in many ways! Check out all the opportunities below:
Join us for our weekly Youth Group meeting on Sundays during the school year. This is where we tackle questions we have about the changing world around us using discussion, activities, trivia, and games. We welcome all points of views and try to create a safe place for meaningful conversation.
Junior High 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Sunday 3-4:30pm
Senior High 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades Sunday 4-6pm
It has been very important to our Church to give back to the community and we strive to offer our youth opportunities for outreach and service each month. A few of our past events include picking up trash on our town streets, handing out Blessing Bags to homeless people in New York City, and visiting older generations at nursing homes.
We also like to offer our students a break from the stresses of school work with monthly fun activities. To make the events accessible to everyone we like to alternate every other month with a free one. Some of our past events have included game nights, a trip to Lake Compounce, movie nights, and even white water rafting.
Every summer, Senior High students get the chance to travel to new places for our Mission/Service Trip. It is very important that our youth get to see how people live outside their little town of Bethel. Our group has traveled to places as close as Boston and as far away as South Dakota. The work done on these trips can range from working at a food pantry to building a house. With a little guidance and a willingness to try new things, students return home with a passion to make a positive difference in the world.
Carter Tiskin Slack Scholarship
We have been very blessed through a few very generous donations to be able to offer the Carter Tiskin Slack Scholarship Program. This allows us to recognize all the work our youth does for the Church and the greater community. Students receive points for their involvement in youth group and Church events, which then are tallied and converted in to scholarship money. We are able to invest in our student’s future as the pursue high education after high school graduation.
